Published: 27 February 2017

On 25th February, 2017, at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, the club’s under 13 girls finished 6th overall at the Saucony National Championships, to record the club’s best ever result at this level. The team of Ali Prince, Libby Newhouse, Olivia Martin, Katie Jeans,Holly Hunter and Clover de Jonge worked strongly as a team, encouraging one another throughout the day to beat many larger clubs. Showing great team spirit the girls tackled a tough and demanding course made harder by heavy overnight rain.First home was Olivia Martin in 23rd place, in a time of 13.52s, closely followed in 26th place by Clover de Jonge (13.56s). Third home for Oxford was Holly Hunter in 117th place (14.51s), 4th Ali Prince in 121st place(14.54s), 5th Libby Newhouse in 161st place (15.13s), and in 175th place Katie Jeans (15.18s).This was agreat result in a large field of 467 runners. Winning team Blackheath and Bromley were well worth their win, but the magnitude of Oxford’s 6th place is shown by the number of famous clubs they beat – including WSEH in 8th place, Aldershot Farnham & District in 12th, Sale Harriers in 17th, Liverpool Harriers in 24th…and the list goes on. Well done girls, you have made the club very proud.

In other races, Henry Channon took 137th place in a field of 458 in the under 13 boys race, in a time of13:55s. In the under 15 girls race, twins Sacha and Leonie Kennedy were placed 111th and 201st respectively in a field of 426, with times of 18:27s and 19:12s. In the under 17 girls race, Jamie Garry was the first Oxfordshire runner homein 115th in a time of22:29s.
